Christmas Lights in Malaga: a unique spectacle

Walking along Calle Larios at Christmas time is an essential activity in Malaga. This street, which connects with the Plaza de la Constitución, is transformed every year into a spectacle of lights and sound, which has become as deeply-rooted a tradition as eating grapes on New Year’s Eve. In addition to Calle Larios, other emblematic spots such as Alameda Principal and Calle Alcazabilla are also adorned with impressive Christmas decorations.

This technique combines lights, images and sound to create a captivating visual spectacle. Over the years, this event has evolved, adapting to different monuments and offering a unique experience each season. It has become one of the most awaited and emblematic Christmas activities in Malaga.

  • The Municipal Nativity Scene in the Town Hall: One of the most impressive in Malaga, it attracts thousands of visitors every season, standing out for its beauty and detail. In addition, many of the city’s Holy Week Brotherhoods participate in this tradition, contributing to the creation of unique representations that reflect the Malaga Christmas spirit.
  • The Nativity Scene of the Cathedral of Malaga: Another of the most outstanding nativity scenes, managed by the Nativity Scene Association of Malaga. This nativity scene, which is put together with an impressive dedication of some 35,000 hours of work, recreates a Nativity scene 45 metres long, making it one of the largest and most spectacular in the city. Undoubtedly, an essential stop for lovers of Christmas tradition and art.
  • The Museo Carmen Thyssen’s Nativity Scene: every year it celebrates Christmas with a special programme that includes performances by different musical groups and a traditional Neapolitan Nativity Scene.
