Imagine you have a week’s holiday in Mallorca and you would like to explore the island from top to bottom. However, with so many routes it can be difficult to choose where to start. We are going to talk about 5 routes located all over the island:

1 – Alcúdia – Cap de Formentor

Spectacular road cycling route in Mallorca that starts in Alcúdia and ends at the impressive Cap de Formentor. The ascent to the Faro de Formentor begins with 3.2 kilometres of hard ascent to the Coll de Sa Creueta, with a gradient of 6%, the reward for which is the spectacular viewpoint.

This route designed for experienced cyclists will test your endurance and skill as you ride along one of the island’s most exciting itineraries. In high season, the route is usually restricted to cars and motorbikes, offering cyclists the opportunity to enjoy a quieter and safer route.

Itinerary: Alcúdia – Puerto de Pollensa – Cap de Formentor – Puerto Pollensa – Alcúdia

2 – Palma – Coll de Sa Creu

The Palma-Coll de Sa Creu route is a very accessible route from various points on the island. It is perfect to experience the exciting Tramontana mountain range. It will take you through varied terrain, with climbs and descents that will put all your cycling skills to the test. The protagonists of this route are the pretty village of Galilea and the challenging ascent to Coll de Sa Creu.

Itinerary: Secar de la Real (Palma) – Puigpunyent – Galilea – Es Capdellà – Calvià – Coll de sa Creu – Secar de la Real (Palma)

Distance: 49.9 km

3 – Inca – Sa Calobra

One of the most emblematic and challenging routes in Mallorca, with ascents to Coll de sa Batalla and Sa Calobra. A 10-kilometre route with an average gradient of 7% and short ramps, which in some cases exceed 20%.

From Inca, you will be able to enjoy exceptional views of the Sierra de Tramontana mountain range and you must make an obligatory stop at the famous “knot of the tie” for a perfect cycling photo.

Itinerary: Inca – Sa Calobra

Distance: 70.7 km

4 – Lighthouse of cap de ses Salines – Colònia de Sant Jordi

This route, located in the south of the island, runs all along the coast with few slopes, so you will see unspoilt beaches such as Es Carbo, Es Caragol and Cala En Tugores, which are only accessible by bike or on foot. During the whole route you can contemplate the crystal clear waters typical of the Balearic Islands.

Itinerary: Lighthouse of Cap de ses Salines-Colònia de Sant Jordi

Distance: 11.7 km

5 – Artà – Porto Cristo

The route offers a diversity of landscapes, from hilly to breathtaking coastal stretches. This route, with its mix of challenges and excellent views, is a cycling paradise.  Artà, with its medieval past, adds a historical touch to the route. As you head towards Son Servera and Cala Millor, the varied terrain both challenges and delights. But the real gem of this route is Porto Cristo, known for its impressive underground caves, the famous Caves of Drach. A pause in your journey to explore these natural wonders will add a unique touch to your cycling journey. As you head towards Manacor, the landscape changes again, with its spectacular countryside. 

You end up returning to Artà, thus completing an unforgettable cycling route.

Cycling Competition 312

Challenge Ciclista a Mallorca

This competition, also known as the Vuelta Ciclista a Mallorca, is one of the most emblematic in Spain, attracting some of the most outstanding cyclists and teams in the world, present in competitions such as the Tour de France. This event has contributed significantly to the rise of cycling tourism on the island.

Brevet 200 

The Brevets are long-distance cycling routes, non-competitive, which run on roads open to traffic and must be completed within a set maximum time. Several Brevets are held in Mallorca every year, most of them being 200 km long. One of the most outstanding is the Non-Stop Mallorca, which is done by mountain bike and attracts more and more participants.
