Fiestas de Denia

Denia is a charming city on the Costa Brava, known for its celebrations and its atmosphere. This city has an extensive range of holiday rentals with villas for up to 8 guests.

During Denia’s festival, the city comes to life with infectious energy, enveloping its inhabitants and visitors from all over the world alike. From day one of the festivities, you can enjoy a great atmosphere in every corner of the city. The main streets are decorated with flags, the squares fill with food stalls and numerous cultural and traditional activities are held.

Entry of bulls (Entrada de toros)

The “entrada de toros” or entry of bulls is similar to the “encierros de San Fermin” bull runs in Pamplona. The event attracts numerous spectators that line the streets to witness the exciting bull run. The most daring participants have the chance to take part, a challenge full of skill and courage. The bull run starts from calle Marqués de Campo and finishes at the bull ring in the port where “Els Bous a la Mar” then takes place.

Els Bous a la Mar

This is the main event of the festival of Denia, which takes place every day, a unique celebration which combines a passion for bulls and love of the sea.

The expression “Els Bous a la Mar” literally translates as “bulls to the sea” in English.

This event is held in a semi-circular bull ring in the port of Denia. The unique aspect of this bull ring is that the sea forms part of the bull ring itself.

The goal is to get the bulls to jump into the sea and, once in the water, the bulls are driven using a boat without an engine to a ramp for their return to the ring.

Without a doubt, this is an impressive show that attracts visitors from all over the world. “Els Bous a la Mar” was declared a Festival of National Interest in 1993. This event is one of the most exciting experiences of Denia’s fiestas.

Procession of floats and ‘comparsas’

One of the most striking moments of the festival is the famous procession of floats, where colourful and elaborate floats parade the city’s streets. The procession is made up of all of the groups that form part of the “Las Fallas de Denia” festival.

These works of handicraft require enormous creativity and hard work. That’s why a competition is held and a prize is awarded to the best float and the best ‘comparsa’ (group of singers, musicians and dancers). You simply cannot miss it.

“Nit de Foc”

“Nit de Foc” is an impressive firework display which marks the end of the festival of Denia. The show sees a large number of fireworks set off from “playa de la Escollera Norte” beach, lighting up the sky and creating a magical and festive atmosphere. The event attracts thousands of people who congregate on the beach to witness the impressive display. The fireworks are designed and set off by pyrotechnical experts, who create a variety of effects and shapes in the night sky, creating an unforgettable visual and auditory experience.

Gastronomy

Denia’s festivals aren’t just limited to the most famous events. There is a great deal to discover in every corner of the city. During your visit, make sure you explore the gastronomy, where you will be able to try delicious starters like Denia’s prawns, sea urchins, different types of “cocas” (like a pizza) and traditional dishes like “arroz a banda” (rice dish with cuttlefish), “fideuá” (noodles with seafood).

You will also be able to enjoy a wide variety of refreshing drinks that are typical of the area, such as “horchata” (tiger nut milk) or “agua de Valencia” (Valencian water cocktail), perfect for combating the summer heat while you immerse yourself in the hustle and bustle of Denia’s festival.
