Mallorca is a paradise with a whole range of activities, both for fun, both for learn, made for the whole family and which whose you’ll be able to discover magic spots that’ll leave a lovely memory on you for sure. In this post we’d like to talk about what to see in Mallorca in Winter, but specially, what to see in Mallorca when it rains.
The Island has many exits to the sea that come from the mountain. Those cute small rivers are being called “torrents” and they’re made of rain water that fills them.
The main mountain range in Mallorca (also known as “Sa Roqueta”, which means Small Rock) is the Serra de Tramuntana and in there we’ll find some of the rises we mentioned before, where the “torrents” start their path. On their way they descend the green fields through high cascades and waterfalls that are reborn after a few days of intense rains.
It’s unusual that it’d rain heavily in Mallorca, so if you ever find yourself in Mallorca in these days ENJOY, don’t be sad cause there’s no sun or beach.
Here you are a few routes you can do in Mallorca in Winter:
Es Salt des Freu
You can get to at Es Salt des Freu after a short and easy excursion that only lasts from 20 to 30 minutes through the Coa Negra Torrent. This hike is pretty smooth and you’ll be able to see the prettiest views made by green meadows, pines, holm oaks and olive trees.
During the hike we’ll find the classic stone walls, some ruins from old houses named “Cases des Freu (houses of the Freu)” and other classic elements from the Majorcan architecture.
At the end of this nice path we’ll be right on top of the huge waterfall. With 7 meters tall and awesome views waiting for you, we can ensure you that Es Salt des Freu will be one of the most incredible hikes you can do with the whole family.
Fonts Ufanes
The Font Ufanes can be found in Campanet, a lovely town located in the North of Majorca, concretely in the Gabellí Petit Finca. These fountains are set as Natural Monument since 2011 due to its rare existence and its beauty cause after every heavy rain episode they “explode” from the underground.
This phenomenon represents a high surprise for all its visitors that go to visit them in the moment they explode. This spectacle happens from 2 to 7 times per year due to the pressure the rain has from being accumulated underground.
Es Pont Romà
Located in Pollença, this old bridge is set on top of Sant Jordi’s torrent and divides Pollença Town with Ternelles and L’Horta area. This wonderful bridge has unknown creation date and, even though it’s being called Roman Bridge, it’s not fully known that it’s Roman and it’s believed that it’s medieval. On the days of heavy raining people can appreciate the torrent filled with water from on top of it, an experience that will give you an incredible view.
Besides, the surroundings offer a breathtaking view of a natural and calmed environment. No doubt, this spot won’t deceive you.
Torrent des Lli
This torrent, also known as Torrent de Valldemossa, is one of the torrents with most incredible views that we’ll find in Mallorca. It has a short path but at the same time it’s one of the prettiest waterfalls from Mallorca form on top of whom we’ll be able to watch the Valldemossa Port.
The fall is 54 meters tall and it’s needed to have a lot of precaution and go well prepared, even though we can guarantee you that if you accomplish the requirements you’ll enjoy an incredible experience.
Torrent de na Mora
This torrent is a charming and ideal torrent for those who’d like to enjoy incredible “gorgs” (natural pools) with some falls that will bring you a lot of fun. Even though to get to them you must walk a bit, since the beginning is pretty far from the falls, this path located in between Bàlitx and Montcaire mountains will allow you to enjoy both the Serra de Tramuntana both its endings on the sea.
Torrent d’Almedrà
This torrent is thought to enjoy a pretty hike from Cúber to La Font des Pi, jumping through some falls of 15 or 20 meters tall aprox, at the same time of an amazing natural environment.
During the hike we’ll find some tunnels that can be used for those who have vertigo and don’t want to go across most of the paths that surround the mountains.
